BEAUTY BITES: GREEN DREAM COCONOLA + FIG CREAM

Philosophie superfoods have been such a force of fuel in my life recently. Having been able to tolerate hemp + chia seeds better, I have been spooning out Green Dream + Cacao Bliss on the daily.

Even before incorporating these into my routine, however, Sophie’s work itself was already a source of potent inspiration to me. She regularly concocts easy-peasy potions like this [which would be a dream with Mizuba tea], making it a regular destination for a creative jolt of ideas + sustained nourishment.

Also, as Thirlby is a platform of authenticity + transparency, I deeply admire Sophie's honest portrayal of herself. Sophie is wholly and, if it were only a word, embracingly herself. You can find her unapologetically + thoroughly expressing her emotions for her community, reiterating the strength in vulnerability.

This is incredibly difficult to do online. There’s a quiet uneasiness to the veil of social media and its presentation of our lives. Through the tirelessly composed photographs + waxing poetic, we can unintentionally build a façade of perfectly-composed selves. This is far from the truth. I myself work + come home at 8.30 p.m. I don't daze + dream up my blog posts—I squeeze them in during a commute or while pummeled on the couch in a pretzel pose at the end of the day. I am still in the midst of healing from illness . . . there are days where I don’t know where the bed sheets covering me begin and my pain end. Comparison and doubt are poisons I consistently chew on despite the movie screen-worthy spiritual smacks that hit my soul.

Yet, I also consistently remember: we are all on the same journey—cut by the same pebbles of fear, rejoicing under the same sun, on the path to the same ultimate desired destination: here and now.

I made this recipe as a dedication to this truth—a medicinal reminder to supplement our conscience on the daily, by the hour, in split seconds. I bow to authentic examples such as Sophie and countless other women who make the visible effort to resonate in reverence for their hearts to cultivate it in all whom they touch. I'm looking at you: Elena Brower [nine months sober power], single making + moving mamas like mine + Amanda Bacon, community-building Holly Nakashima, the female forces behind Cherry Bombe, + a house of honesty that is Ashley Neese, and so many more. To  all the women show who show the strength in standing on our own ground but also in kneeling down for help, in pushing beyond our assumed capabilities but doing so with a soft heart, + in rising out of the boundaries set for women across societies by elevating one another . . .

1 frozen banana or avocado, to your sweet taste buds
3 small figs | the ultimate mineralising feminine fruit
A dash of quantum salt

g r e e n   d r e a m   c o c o n o l a
A pack of fresh or defrosted coconut slices
2 tablespoons fresh coconut water
1/4 cup raw coconut butter
2 tablespoons Green Dream
1 teaspoon cinnamon
A dash of quantum salt

D I R E C T I O N S | The fig cream is simply a toss + turn in the blender!
Place all the coconola ingredients into a big bowl except for the green dream + coconut butter. Mix those two separately then pour into the bowl. Mix well. Let it stand for half an hour to marinade in its flavours. Dehydrate at 105 degrees overnight, checking periodically. When ready, sprinkle onto your fig cream or any smoothie of your choice! Or munch on it standing by the kitchen counter as I do . . .
