Camp Thirlby’s Guide to Finding Your Balance This Libra Season

Did it take you 45 minutes to decide which outfit to wear to impress your class crush this morning? Are you overcome by the injustice of that one woman who mindlessly cut in line at the coffee shop? Do you have a sudden and overwhelming desire to scour Pinterest for home decor inspiration? You might just be suffering from a case of Libra season.

Libra season blesses us each year from September 23 through October 23. We love Libra placements for their commitment to peacekeeping, unmatchable style, and uncanny ability to flirt through any crowd. We owe Libra season a great deal, including this 8 minute compilation of Jeff Goldblum being weird on Conan.

“He’s a very sensual man,” Conan says of Goldblum.

Well, yeah. He’s a Libra.

Our Venus ruled friends have a lot to teach us about partnership, commitment and drive. Here’s our camp guide to make like a scale and get balanced this Libra season.

School and Work

With the sun in the cardinal sign of Libra, this is the time to get things GOING. Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) are the leaders of the zodiac, the placements that are always looking to start something new. So, utilize this season to kick off your college or grad school applications, start researching that term paper idea you’re passionate about, or propose a new initiative at work.

This period is an especially great time to go full speed ahead on the creative projects you’ve been too afraid to start, as the sun in Libra puts our aesthetic senses in overdrive.

Relationships

Libra season’s overlap with cuffing season is reason enough to declare that astrology is real. Ruled by the planet of love and represented by the scale, a sign of balance, Libra placements are drawn to partnerships more than any other sign. If you’ve got your eyes on a certain someone to cuddle up to as the temperature drops, channel some air sign wit and you’ll have them wrapped up in you like a thread in your cable knit sweater.

If you’ve been cuffed for a while, use a little air sign objectivity to take a step back and evaluate what is and isn’t working in your relationship. Are you in balance? If you’re missing that early-relationship-honey-moon-feeling, challenge yourselves to explore new experiences through your senses. Draw in Venus together by listening to new music, observing art, trying new things in the kitchen and in… well…  other rooms as well.

Though cuffing season might feel like a highly competitive game of musical chairs wherein the losers get singledom, it’s important to remember that not all partnerships are romantic. This Libra season, I’m going to focus on making my friendships more harmonious. No one knows how to find common ground like a Libra, making this a great time to check in with your friends and air out any tension that might be sitting below the surface. Once the scales are realigned, make girls night a priority (Take out and a rom-com? Now that’s what I call Libra Season).

Free Time

Libras may be professionals at partnerships, but socializing is their favorite sport. Like their fellow air signs, Gemini and Aquarius, Libras have a knack for communication. The surge in Libra energy encourages us to get out and meet new people. Before you leave, put some effort into your ensemble. A true Libra emphasizes taste and style, but what that means to you is beautifully subjective.

Libras are also defined by their peacekeeping nature and drive towards justice. We should all take inspiration from this to devote time to the causes we care about. Look into local activism happening in your area or volunteer opportunities so you can do your part to make the world a more just place. If you’re feeling especially cardinal, tap into Libra’s knack for strategy to plan a demonstration or fundraiser of your own.

Self

As the first sign of the later half of the zodiac, Libra represents a shift in focus from the self to the world around us. This energy may overtake you and lead you to devote more time to your relationships and goals, making it especially important to remember to make time for yourself. While Libras may dread alone time, they love luxury, so why not treat yourself to a night in with a candlelit bath, a calming playlist and a sheet mask that makes you feel a little more like Venus carved in marble.

She discovered her love for writing as a little girl, typing fairytale stories on her parents old Dell and printing them out before taping them into glitter-glue-encrusted cardboard covers. These days, she thinks honest and fully developed stories about women are even better than fairy tales. When she’s not scheming against the male hegemony of the media industry, she can be found thrifting, watching cult films and TV and badly dancing to good music.
